MOTHER ASSUMPTA
Every morning,
Mother Assumpta,
queenlike
and
gracious,
led her fellow sisters
down the center aisle
of the chapel
to receive Holy Communion.
Heavily burdened
as Mother Superior
of St. Vincent’s,
she had little time to be
with orphaned children.
Yet, when summoned
to her office
on an upper floor
of the main building,
children found delight
in her gracious smiles.
i
Whenever called there,
I had the feeling
of being high in the sky,
and
that Heaven lay
just outside her window sills!
